Project Overview

An animal center required a reliable backup power system to support its operations, ensuring continuous energy availability during outages. The facility needed a 966 kWh Energy Storage System (ESS) with 600 kW of UPS power, configured in parallel with its 380V low-voltage panels

Given space constraints and the need for weatherproofing, a customized solution was essential for seamless integration into the existing infrastructure.

Challenge

Two primary challenges emerged during the project’s execution:

  1. Limited Installation Space
The designated installation site—a small motorcycle parking lot—posed significant spatial limitations. The ESS and UPS units had to be placed strategically to avoid disrupting facility operations while maintaining accessibility for maintenance and future expansion.

  2. Weatherproofing for UPS Units
The site lacked adequate waterproofing for the UPS systems, posing a risk to their long-term reliability. Protecting critical backup power components from environmental factors was crucial to ensuring uninterrupted operation.

Solution

To address these challenges, Etica designed a compact and weatherproof ESS installation:

  • Three Etica ESS immersion-cooled battery cabinets, totaling 966 kWh, provided a thermally managed and fire-safe solution with a reduced footprint.

  • Two UPS systems (300 kW each) delivered a total of 600 kW of backup power to maintain uninterrupted facility operations.

  • A 10-foot container house was installed to house the ESS and UPS units, addressing space constraints while ensuring complete protection against environmental exposure.

  • The Battery Management System (BMS) and Energy Management System (EMS) optimized system performance, enabling remote monitoring and control for increased efficiency.

Results

Etica successfully implemented a reliable, compact, and scalable backup power solution tailored to the animal center’s needs. By utilizing a containerized approach, the system overcame spatial limitations and provided the necessary weatherproofing for the UPS units. The ESS seamlessly integrated into the facility’s infrastructure, ensuring operational continuity while allowing for future expansion as power demands grow.

This installation demonstrates Etica’s ability to deliver innovative energy storage solutions in challenging environments, reinforcing resilience and reliability for critical facilities.
