Our Story
Twenty-five years ago, Gavin Wang founded Etica Battery with a small team, focusing on niche battery applications. As lithium batteries gained popularity, Etica expanded its expertise and manufacturing capabilities. Then, a customer challenge led to a breakthrough in developing a battery module that prevented fire propagation.
Through relentless testing, the team created a solution that stopped fires from spreading. But Gavin wanted more than containment. He wanted prevention. That led to immersion cooling for BESS. By submerging battery cells in a dielectric liquid, heat dissipates instantly, stopping fires before they start.
After extensive testing, Etica combined immersion cooling with anti-fire propagation technology to create the safest Battery Energy Storage System.
Now, Gavin is bringing Etica’s innovations to the U.S., where demand for safe energy storage is growing. Through EticaAG, he aims to change perceptions and make battery energy storage a trusted and risk-free technology for the future.

EticaAG Completes the First UL 9540A Thermal Runaway Propagation Testing for an Immersion-Cooled Battery Energy Storage System
EticaAG has completed the battery energy storage industry’s first UL 9540A thermal runaway propagation testing for an immersion-cooled battery system. Pre-test trials showed thermal runaway could not be induced with immersion cooling active, requiring removal of the dielectric fluid to generate propagation data for the official UL 9540A procedure used in permitting and safety evaluations.

What does EticaAG do?
EticaAG designs and manufactures immersion-cooled lithium-ion battery energy storage systems engineered to prevent fire before it starts. Why is EticaAG focused on battery energy storage safety?
EticaAG focuses on battery safety because fire risk, toxic gas release, permitting challenges, and community opposition remain major barriers to energy storage deployment. Conventional lithium-ion systems often rely on reactive suppression after a thermal event begins. EticaAG takes a prevention-first approach by controlling heat at the cell level, preventing propagation, and neutralizing hazardous off-gases before they create broader site risks.
How does LiquidShield immersion cooling work?
LiquidShield immersion cooling submerges battery cells in a dielectric, high fire-point liquid that provides direct thermal contact around each cell. This maintains uniform cell temperatures, prevents hot spots, slows degradation, and prevents thermal runaway propagation. Unlike conventional cooling methods that manage heat from outside the cell or module, LiquidShield controls temperature directly at the cell level, supporting both fire prevention and longer-lasting system performance.
How does EticaAG extend battery life?
EticaAG extends battery life by maintaining uniform cell temperatures through LiquidShield™ immersion cooling. Conventional air-cooled and liquid cold-plate systems can create temperature variation across cells, which accelerates degradation and reduces usable capacity over time. By surrounding each cell with a dielectric, high fire-point liquid, EticaAG prevents hot spots, slows degradation, and keeps system performance closer to the original financial model over the battery’s operating life.
What is HazGuard?
HazGuard is EticaAG’s toxic gas neutralization technology. During a thermal runaway event, lithium-ion batteries may release hazardous gases such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen, hydrocarbons, and electrolyte vapors. HazGuard neutralizes those gases by converting them into inert byproducts (Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide, Water Vapor) before exhaust. This gives EticaAG’s BESS architecture a second layer of protection beyond fire prevention.
What makes EticaAG different from conventional BESS providers?
EticaAG’s main difference is that safety is built into the system architecture, not added as a separate layer after the battery is designed. Conventional BESS often relies on air cooling, liquid cold-plate cooling, ventilation, and suppression systems that respond after a thermal event begins. EticaAG uses immersion-based thermal control and integrated gas neutralization to prevent fire and toxic gas risk at the source.
Where are EticaAG systems best suited?
EticaAG systems are best suited for locations where safety, permitting, and proximity to people or critical assets are key deployment constraints. These include data centers, hospitals, multifamily buildings, commercial facilities, microgrids, emergency response sites, industrial facilities, and urban energy storage projects. EticaAG is especially relevant where conventional lithium-ion systems face scrutiny from AHJs, insurers, communities, or site owners.
